Party Tragedy Turns To Success!

A Florida hostess tells us about the surprise baby shower that almost wasn't. The guest list was provided by the expectant mom's husband and relatives, so the hostess didn't know her guests that well. A few sent gifts with regrets that they could not attend. No one else sent an RSVP. So, the hostess assumed all would attend. To her horror, only her friend's mom and sister came to the party. Panic-stricken, she called her neighbors and invited them to help celebrate. When the guest of honor arrived, all was in place: food, candles, flowers, gifts, and enough guests to make it a truly festive occasion. Games were played, prizes awarded, photos taken. And the new mom made some wonderful new friends.

Party Tip: a week or so before the party call to confirm your guests' attendance... or have the kind of neighbors you'd want as party guests!

Party Animal Blooper of The Month

Home-made Magic Lemon Crunch was the hit at the monthly bridge party. The hostess went to her kitchen to set up the coffee and cut the pies. On the table between the pies sat Princess, delicately cleaning her paws and fluffing her fur, just as snowy white as the meringue she had carefully removed from each pie. Not a speck of meringue remained on either pie. Satisfied with her work, Princess proceeded into the living room where all could admire her feline beauty. Meanwhile, the hostess quickly piled pie filling and bits of crunchy crust into elegant wine glasses, topping each with a mint leaf. The guests were impressed with their deliciously different "Magic" lemon desserts.

Party Tip: save your meringue-topped desserts from kitty-lickers by keeping them chilling in the refrigerator until ready to serve... or grow lots of fresh mint.

Party Theme Idea: Give a Wedding Shower with a Kitchen theme.

Include index cards with the invitations and ask guests to bring their favorite recipe and any special ingredients or kitchen items that might be required (such as a garlic keeper and herbs for an Italian recipe). Find out the bride's favorite kitchen colors and pass that information along too. Fill a basket with kitchen implements (spatulas, whisks, measuring cups & spoons, etc.) and have each guest pick one out to give to the bride with a special wish. For example, they might give her a whisk to "stir up excitement" or measuring cups to keep things "in balance" in her new life, etc.; just ask them to make light-hearted wishes. Decorate with candles in a colander or under graters of different sizes, tie bunches of helium-filled balloons with dish-towel bows in the bride's colors.
